The Pittsburgh Steelers addressed several questions from fans in the latest edition of “Asked and Answered,” touching on topics ranging from uniform schedules to quarterback plans for the upcoming season.
Steelers President Art Rooney II confirmed that the team will wear its color rush uniforms during their Monday, Dec. 15 game against Miami at Acrisure Stadium. The Hall of Honor Induction Dinner is scheduled for the night before, and members of the Class of 2025 will be recognized during the game.
Regarding quarterback depth, Mason Rudolph was signed in the offseason and is expected to serve as backup to Aaron Rodgers. Will Howard or Skylar Thompson are competing for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart. Coach Mike Tomlin has stated, “I’m worried about 2025, and so I’m excited about the talent we’ve acquired and about getting about the business of getting them individually and collectively prepared for this season. Our intentions are 2025.” As training camp continues at Saint Vincent College, Rodgers is set as starter with Rudolph as his backup.
There is no long-term quarterback strategy announced by the team beyond this season. The personnel department will continue its regular scouting activities leading up to next year’s draft.
Practice times during training camp are subject to guidelines established by the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which outlines limits on practice duration and total work hours for players. If weather interrupts outdoor practices in Latrobe, sessions may be moved indoors but rarely canceled due to these regulations.
Several current Steelers have been part of Super Bowl-winning teams: Darius Slay, Kenneth Gainwell, Jalen Ramsey, Isaac Seumalo, Scotty Miller, Cordarrelle Patterson, Juan Thornhill, Ben Skowronek, and Aaron Rodgers.
In response to a question about defensive statistics from past seasons, between 1974 and 1979 the Steelers recorded yearly interception totals ranging from 22 to 31 per season with leaders including Glen Edwards, J.T. Thomas, Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Tony Dungy, and Jack Lambert.
The Steelers will host the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday night football Oct. 26 with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m.
On defense this year, Coach Tomlin appears open to rotating secondary players such as Darius Slay between positions depending on matchups each week rather than assigning fixed roles.
For those seeking updates on Franco Harris’ Immaculate Reception statue at Pittsburgh International Airport: KDKA reports that it has been relocated near an information desk alongside statues of George Washington and Nellie Bly outside the primary TSA checkpoint; all three statues will remain there until a new terminal opens in 2025 (https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/franco-harris-statue-moved-pittsburgh-international-airport/).
Finally, Max Starks has taken over as color commentator alongside Rob King in broadcast coverage this season.
