The Steelers’ Asked and Answered column has addressed various fan inquiries, ranging from player departures to game broadcasts. Ken Mauldin from Clyde, TX, asked about Mike Merriweather’s departure from the Steelers. Merriweather was drafted by the Steelers in 1982 and played six seasons with them before missing the 1988 season due to a contract holdout. He was traded to Minnesota for a draft pick that became Tom Ricketts. While successful with the Vikings, he did not make it to the Pro Bowl after leaving Pittsburgh.

Rick Miller from Columbia, SC, queried about viewing options for a Steelers-Vikings game scheduled in Ireland on September 28. Currently, there are no plans for a mass viewing event at Acrisure Stadium, but local bars and restaurants are expected to broadcast the game.

Todd Furst from Allentown, PA, sought expectations for wide receiver Roman Wilson. The advice given is similar to that of Calvin Austin III’s situation in 2022; fans should allow Wilson’s role within the team to develop naturally during training camp.

John Puhatch from Pittsburgh inquired about T.J. Watt’s contract extension status. The response emphasized patience as such negotiations typically occur over summer.

Mickey Hamer from Troy, OH, recalled an NFL preseason game between the Steelers and Bears in Ireland back in 1997 and questioned why it’s not recognized like regular season games. The explanation clarified that only regular season games count towards official records.

Brett Ensley from Fayetteville noted Andy Russell’s fumble return record being broken by Sam Hubbard of Cincinnati during a Wild Card Round Game against Baltimore on January 15, 2003.

Nicholas Pelchar from Purcellville wondered about Julius Welschof’s chances of making the team beyond his role as Germany’s NFL representative player. Welschof is currently part of the team’s roster through their international program and will compete for a spot at training camp.

Mark Richter from Huntington Beach asked if there’s a historical list of players’ jersey numbers worn throughout franchise history. Such lists exist in the Steelers Media Guide.

Kolby Carr from New Castle requested an opinion on Logan Lee’s potential contribution to the defensive line rotation after being drafted last year but getting injured early on. It was suggested that Lee focus on staying healthy during training camp as roster decisions unfold based on performance rather than speculation at this stage.
