Pittsburgh, PA – Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been confirmed by Hockey Canada to represent Team Canada at the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Championship. Kyle Dubas of the Pittsburgh organization will accompany him, taking on the role of General Manager for Team Canada. The championship will take place from May 9 to May 25, hosted in Herning, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden.

This marks Crosby’s third participation in the World Championship, having previously taken part in 2006 and 2015, where he led the team as captain to win a gold medal. Overall, it will be his ninth international appearance for Team Canada, most recently guiding the team to a gold at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, where he was instrumental with four assists and five points.

Crosby, hailing from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, is renowned for being the 26th member of the Triple Gold Club—achieving victories in the Stanley Cup (2009, 2016, 2017), Olympic Gold (2010, 2014), and the World Championship (2015). Notably, Crosby is the only player to have served as captain across all these victorious teams. He is also celebrated for the “Golden Goal” during the 2010 Olympic Games, alongside triumphs in other international tournaments such as the World Cup of Hockey (2016) and the World Junior Championship (2005).

Ending his 20th NHL season, Crosby tallied 33 goals, 58 assists, and 91 points over 80 games. He led the Penguins in assists, points, game-winning goals (10), and overtime goals (4), and set a franchise record by becoming the Penguins’ all-time leader in assists, overtaking Mario Lemieux. Additionally, by maintaining a point-per-game average this season, he recorded his 20th such season, breaking the record previously held by Wayne Gretzky.

The preliminary schedule for Team Canada at the 2025 World Championship has been released, and matches will be aired on the NHL Network and ESPN+.
