Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby has been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2026 Olympic Games, as announced by Hockey Canada. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) recognizes Crosby as one of the “First Six” members of the team.

At 37, Crosby recently completed his 20th NHL season with Pittsburgh. He achieved his 20th point-per-game season, surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s record of 19 such seasons in NHL history. During this time, he also reached the milestone of 600 goals and entered the top-10 all-time assist list in the NHL. Additionally, Crosby became the franchise leader in assists for Pittsburgh and received his 13th Team MVP award along with his seventh Players’ Player Award for the 2024-25 season.

The native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia has previously participated in two Olympic Games with Team Canada (2010 and 2014), winning gold medals on both occasions. In 2010, he served as an alternate captain and was captain in 2014. Notably, he scored “The Golden Goal,” securing victory against the United States during overtime at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. Throughout his Olympic career with Team Canada, Crosby has recorded a total of ten points from five goals and five assists across thirteen games.

Crosby’s international achievements include gold medals at several prestigious tournaments: the Four Nations Face-Off (2025), World Cup of Hockey (2016), World Championship (2015), and World Junior Championship (2005). He is among only twenty-six players to join the Triple Gold Club—winning a Stanley Cup along with gold medals at both the Olympic Games and World Championship—and is unique for having captained each team to their respective titles.

The upcoming Winter Olympics will take place from February 6-22, 2026, in Milan and Cortina, Italy.
