After the Pittsburgh Penguins’ season concluded, Sidney Crosby headed to Sweden and Denmark for the 2025 World Championship. The veteran player expressed his enthusiasm about continuing to play in such tournaments. “At my age, it’s not too often you get the opportunity to keep playing in tournaments like this, represent Canada, be part of this group,” he stated.
Crosby has led his team to a strong 6-0-1 record in the preliminary round. Canada is set to face Denmark in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 2:20 PM Eastern time. According to @PenguinsPR, Crosby has accumulated 11 points (4 goals and 7 assists) and holds a +7 rating over seven games. He ranks second on Team Canada for goals and assists and third for total points; his overall performance ties him for fifth place in the tournament.
Ryan O’Reilly commented on Crosby’s skills during an interview with the IIHF website. “When you’re playing with Crosby, you get to appreciate him more,” O’Reilly said. He praised Crosby’s playmaking ability as one of the reasons why he’s considered one of the best players globally.
Crosby aims to continue his successful run into further stages of the competition with hopes of securing another World Championship gold medal—his first was won in 2015. This victory placed him among an elite group known as the Triple Gold Club, comprising players who have won Worlds gold, Olympic gold, and a Stanley Cup while captaining each team.
Should he win again at this championship, Crosby would become just the fourth member of what is called the Double Triple Gold Club alongside Peter Forsberg, Igor Larionov, and Slava Fetisov.
Meanwhile, Marc-Andre Fleury seeks inclusion into this prestigious club as well by making his debut appearance at these championships—a milestone that could see him become its first-ever goalie member.
The reunion between former teammates Fleury and Crosby has been notable after years apart since their days together winning titles for Pittsburgh’s franchise until 2017—a bond evident when they reunited under Team Canada’s banner once more thanks largely due efforts made by Kyle Dubas serving dual roles both back home within organization but also abroad managing duties here now too!
Fleury shared how excitedly anticipating time spent alongside old friend again jokingly adding plans keeping practices honest through some playful banter aimed toward star forward himself! Young talent Macklin Celebrini experienced thrill joining lineups featuring such legends recounting moments meeting idolized figure whom corrected initial formal address simply preferring familiar nickname instead!
