Coach Mike Tomlin’s focus on situational football paid off for the Steelers in their recent game against Washington at Northwest Stadium. The team capitalized on key moments, securing a 29-27 victory with significant contributions from quarterback Russell Wilson.

Two critical plays defined the match. First, facing a third-and-9 from Washington’s 32-yard line with just over two minutes remaining, Wilson connected with Mike Williams for a decisive 32-yard touchdown pass that turned the game in the Steelers’ favor. Later, with the team leading by one point and confronted with a fourth-and-1 situation, Wilson successfully drew an offsides penalty from rookie defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton, allowing the Steelers to maintain possession and run out the clock.

For his performance, Wilson was named the Steelers Digest Player of the Week. Several other players were also recognized for their contributions. Defensive tackle Cam Heyward recorded two sacks and deflected a pass. Wide receiver George Pickens caught five passes totaling 91 yards and scored a touchdown. Inside linebacker Patrick Queen led with seven tackles, including two for loss and defended a pass.

Running back Jaylen Warren added 95 yards from scrimmage—66 rushing on 14 carries—and made two receptions for an additional 29 yards. Newcomer Mike Williams was crucial with his game-changing catch, while outside linebacker Preston Smith contributed three tackles and one sack. The defensive tandem of Damontae Kazee and Minkah Fitzpatrick played a vital role by stopping Zach Ertz short on a pivotal fourth-and-9 play late in the game.
