Pictures often capture fleeting moments, preserving memories for those who experienced them and offering glimpses to those who did not. In a series titled “Picture Perfect,” Steelers.com will feature historical photographs of the Steelers, delving into stories from the team’s past. This offseason, they spotlight the final home game of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

In this memorable game played at Acrisure Stadium, formerly Heinz Field, Roethlisberger was met with warmth and admiration from fans. Celebrating a 26-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns, he reciprocated the affection shown by the crowd. “Oh, I was mad at them. I wanted them to come out with me,” Roethlisberger noted when reflecting on his teammates allowing him to take center stage during the coin toss. He emphasized the special bond he shares with his team, stating, “That’s why I love this place, and this is home, and these are my brothers, and I’m so blessed.”

Throughout the game, the crowd’s “Let’s Go, Ben” chants echoed, growing louder and more prolonged. The emotional peak came when Roethlisberger took a knee in victory formation. Explaining his emotions, he said, “Anybody in football will tell you when you are on offense that is the best play in football… It made it more emotional and more real.”

As the game concluded, the stadium resonated with “Thank You, Ben” chants. Roethlisberger shared special moments with Steelers President Art Rooney II and embraced numerous players from both teams. Reflecting on the experience, he remarked, “I just wanted to sit down and take it in… I wanted to win this game more than anything for them.”

Expressing his deep connection to the fans and the city, Roethlisberger stated, “I was born in Ohio, but I live here, and I’ll always be here… I wish I could bottle it and have it forever.”

The evening ended with a personal moment as Roethlisberger’s family joined him on the field. “Pretty special having them here,” he said, acknowledging the significance of the occasion. “This place, Heinz Field, is so special to me.”
