Robert Woods, a seasoned NFL receiver, is preparing for his 13th season in the league. In April, he signed a one-year contract, marking another chapter in his extensive career. Over the years, Woods has played in 171 games and started in 145 of them. His record includes 683 receptions totaling 8,233 yards with an average of 12.1 yards per reception and 38 touchdowns. Additionally, he has contributed with 75 rushing attempts for 514 yards and five touchdowns.
Woods was initially drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the 41st overall pick in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He is one of only four active players in the NFL to have at least 7,500 career receiving yards while catching touchdown passes with at least four different teams.
Beyond his professional achievements, Woods returned to USC in 2016 to complete his degree in policy, planning, and development after being drafted by the Bills three years earlier. During his commencement speech at USC, he honored his late sister Olivia Wood who passed away from cancer in 2007. “Before she left, she left me with something I would never forget,” Woods recalled during his speech. “It was her last words to me… ‘You have to be a model.’ Olivia left us that night… however these words have never left me.”
Reflecting on what it means to be a role model, Woods shared insights from his experiences under public scrutiny: “Living in a spotlight of being a top recruit… she wanted me to know… to be an example and a leader for those who are next.”
Woods’ journey began at Serra High School in Gardena, California where he was recognized as part of the USA Today All-USA first team in 2009. In his final high school season, he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards and scored 15 touchdowns while also playing defense.
