U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who serves Pennsylvania’s 12th district, recently used her social media platform to criticize state and national policy decisions affecting education, public health, and energy costs.
On September 3, 2025, Lee questioned the priorities of Louisiana’s educational leadership by posting: “The Louisiana Superintendant claims to support cuts to the Department of Education but just admitted that his state relies on that very same funding to improve math and reading scores. You’re telling me these are the people who are supposed to care for our kids?”
A day later, on September 4, 2025, she addressed concerns about independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., writing: “RFK Jr. is putting all of us in danger by peddling false conspiracy theories, recklessly rolling back vaccine mandates, and destroying the systems that keep us safe and healthy. I stand with these HHS employees calling him out for putting our country at risk.”
In a subsequent post on September 4, Lee turned her attention to economic pressures facing families in her home region: “Families in Western PA are struggling to afford their utility bills and keep the lights on. Instead of investing in clean energy to lower costs, House Republicans just passed a funding bill that slashes that funding and makes life more expensive for working people.”
Lee has represented Pennsylvania’s 12th district since replacing Mike Doyle in Congress in 2023. She previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale, Lee holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University (2009) and a JD from Howard University (2015).
