U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who serves Pennsylvania’s 12th district, recently posted a series of statements on her social media addressing issues ranging from local journalism to federal health policy and immigration enforcement.
On January 8, 2026, Lee criticized Block Communications for its actions in Pittsburgh: “By shuttering the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the Pittsburgh City Paper in a matter of days, Block Communications has failed our region. My full statement: https://t.co/T7Jrm7RvW1”.
Later that day, she referenced changes to Border Patrol protocols regarding firearm use: ‘”Agents should not discharge their weapons against a moving vehicle.” That’s an update made in 2014 to the Border Patrol handbook after investigations uncovered that agents were intentionally jumping in front of moving vehicles and then shooting them. Summer Lee has represented Pennsylvania’s 12th District in Congress since 2023 after previously serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. She was born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and resides in Swissvale. Lee is an alumna of Pennsylvania State University (BA, 2009) and Howard University (JD, 2015).
