Rep. Summer Lee, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district, has been vocal on social media regarding recent political developments and legislative proposals. Her recent tweets highlight her concerns about governmental checks and balances, healthcare access, and legislative priorities.
On May 20, 2025, Rep. Lee expressed concern over perceived intimidation tactics by the administration against government branches. She stated: “First a judge, now a Member of Congress. This administration is trying to intimidate our branches of government to circumvent checks and balances.” She emphasized support for Rep. LaMonica’s efforts in conducting Congressional oversight.
The following day, on May 21, 2025, she addressed potential impacts of a reconciliation package on healthcare coverage. In her tweet, she warned that “Nearly 14 million people nationwide could lose healthcare if this reconciliation package passes.” She urged Republican members to oppose the package unless they prioritized their constituents over corporate interests.
Later that day, Rep. Lee criticized former President Trump’s characterization of the reconciliation package as positive legislation. She questioned its benefits by asking: “What’s beautiful about a bill that forces families to choose between taking their kids to the doctor or feeding them?”
Summer Lee has served in Congress since replacing Mike Doyle in 2023 after previously serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and residing in Swissvale, she holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University and Howard University.
