A series of posts by Rep. Summer Lee, U.S. Congresswoman representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district since 2023, have highlighted her concerns about recent federal actions affecting food assistance and healthcare for millions of Americans.

On October 31, 2025, Lee commented on a recent court decision regarding food aid: ” A federal court just blocked Trump’s attempt to cut off food assistance from 42 million people. We cannot and will not allow the lifelines we depend on, whether it’s SNAP or healthcare or anything else, to be used as bargaining chips.”

The following day, November 1, she posted about the immediate impact on families’ access to benefits: “Today, families are waking up to no SNAP benefits & seeing that their healthcare premiums will skyrocket. Republicans talked about making things affordable––they lied. In the wealthiest country in the world, we can & should make sure everyone has food to eat & care they need.”

Continuing her criticism on November 2, Lee addressed healthcare issues in Pennsylvania: “Pennsylvanians deserve healthcare that is affordable, accessible, and meets their needs. Instead of working towards that for working families, Republicans are manufacturing a healthcare crisis that will jack up insurance costs for thousands of people and kick thousands more off”.

Summer Lee began serving in Congress after replacing Mike Doyle in 2023 and previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale, she holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University and a JD from Howard University.
