Rep. Summer Lee, who represents Pennsylvania’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted local initiatives and historical contributions in a series of posts on her social media account.
On March 14, Lee acknowledged the legacy of Freedom House, stating: “Freedom House, the nation’s first emergency medical service, was started right here in Pittsburgh and made up of Black folks from the Hill District. They built the foundation for the EMS system we know today. Last month I introduced a bill to award Freedom House with a https://t.co/Lpjd64miA6”.
The following day, she visited Heritage Community Initiatives and wrote: “From warm meals to childcare to transportation for our seniors, Heritage Community Initiatives is working to make life easier for residents in the Mon Valley. I toured their facility and spoke to leadership and staff to learn more about the work they are doing to improve https://t.co/RH89HWU65G” (March 15).
On March 16, Lee met with local officials in Clairton. She posted: “Local and city government is where our most pressing issues are handled. I’m grateful to have met with leaders from across Clairton to discuss local priorities and how I can be a partner for their work at the federal level. Summer Lee has served as U.S. Representative since 2023 after replacing Mike Doyle. Before her congressional tenure, she represented Pennsylvania’s 34th district in the state House from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987, Lee resides in Swissvale and holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University (BA) and Howard University (JD).
