Summer Lee, currently serving as a U.S. Congresswoman representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district since 2023, expressed concerns about cost increases across various sectors. On May 2, 2025, she stated, “Trump ran on the promise of lowering costs but the reality is that prices have gone up across the board: groceries, housing, clothing, medical care.” She highlighted the impact on the working class and accused Republicans of exacerbating the issue.
Later on the same day, Lee commented on military spending and the needs of American citizens. She remarked, “Folks don’t need a bloated military spending budget,” and emphasized that essential services such as affordable housing, healthcare, and education should be prioritized over excessive defense expenditures, advocating for fiscal policies that benefit the working class.
On May 3, 2025, Lee addressed funding cuts to AmeriCorps by the Trump administration. In her tweet, she noted, “AmeriCorps means mentors for students, care for elders and vets, recovery after natural disasters, and hands-on work in our parks.” She criticized the decision to revoke $6 million in funding to Pennsylvania and called for the immediate reversal of what she described as unlawful cuts.
Lee, who succeeded Mike Doyle, brings her perspective as a Pennsylvania State University BA graduate and Howard University JD graduate. She has lived in Pittsburgh and Swissvale and aims to address economic and social issues affecting her constituents.
