Rep. Summer Lee, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district since 2023, used her social media platform on January 21 and 22, 2026, to address issues related to congressional oversight and campaign finance reform.
On January 21, Lee posted an update regarding a recent committee vote: “UPDATE: Republicans voted against my amendment to hold Pam Bondi accountable for defying our subpoena to release the Epstein files. It’s past time to stop denying survivors justice.” The same day, she commented on the broader influence of money in politics following the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision: “Since the Citizens United ruling 16 years ago, so many failings in our society are a direct result of corporations and billionaires buying our democracy. We have to overturn Citizens United to return power to the people, where it belongs.”
Continuing her focus on accountability within government proceedings, Lee elaborated on events from an Oversight Committee session held earlier that day. On January 22 she wrote: “Today we had an opportunity in the Oversight Committee to hold Pam Bondi accountable for refusing to release the full, unredacted Epstein files in accordance with our bipartisan subpoena issued in August last year. Instead of voting for my amendment to hold her in civil contempt”.
Summer Lee has served as a congresswoman since replacing Mike Doyle in Pennsylvania’s 12th district at the start of 2023. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she represented constituents in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 through 2022. Born in Pittsburgh and currently residing in Swissvale, Lee holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University (BA) and Howard University (JD).
