Rep. Summer Lee, a U.S. Congress member representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district since 2023, has been vocal on social and environmental issues through her recent series of tweets. Lee’s engagements focus on addressing the impact of certain policies on the environment and economic inequality, highlighting her commitment to advocate for the community.
On April 22, Lee addressed the environmental impacts she attributes to the Trump administration’s first 100 days in office. In her statement, she emphasized her dedication on Earth Day to battling for “clean air, land, and water,” which she considers “non-negotiables.” She noted, “In its first 100 days, the Trump Admin has taken steps to further harm our people and our planet — all so that their corporate polluter friends can make a quick buck.”
The following day, on April 23, Lee criticized the economic policies under the Trump administration. She suggested these policies perpetuate corporate greed and leave working-class people behind. She highlighted issues such as “Tariffs,” “Tax breaks for billionaires,” and “Deregulation for polluters,” expressing concern that these measures “make the rich richer while working folks struggle.”
On April 24, she celebrated a local accomplishment in her district, expressing pride in the completion of the renovation of the Carnegie Library of Homestead. Lee stressed the importance of libraries as community resources, stating, “Libraries are pillars of our communities, providing lifelong learning, free internet, and other resources.” She highlighted the project as a successful effort for the benefit of her community.
Summer Lee, born in Pittsburgh in 1987, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctor from Howard University. Prior to her congressional role, she served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022.
