Rickard Rakell celebrated Father’s Day in 2022 with the arrival of his daughter Daisy. This year, he marks the occasion as a father of two, having welcomed son Ziggy in April with his wife Emmeli. Ziggy’s middle name, Steel, honors Pittsburgh.
“Together with Emmeli, just creating memories with Daisy and Ziggy,” Rickard said about what he loves most about being a father. “We just love to see them laughing and being happy.”
Daisy’s name was inspired by the video game Mario Kart, while Ziggy’s name has a family connection. “My dad wanted to name me Ziggy when I was born,” Rickard shared.
Reflecting on his own father, Rickard spoke of Roland’s unwavering support: “He’s always been so supportive… they have always been there to give us a helping hand or advice.”
Roland watches nearly all of Rickard’s games despite the time difference. “He always will text me after the games,” Rickard said.
Rickard envisioned becoming a dad but enjoyed life with Emmeli before starting their family. “We really traveled a lot and did things just the two of us,” he explained.
Emmeli noted Rickard’s bond with their daughter: “He looks at her like he wants to eat her.” Rickard added, “I’m asking her for hugs and kisses all the time.”
Balancing work and family during an 82-game season is challenging, yet Emmeli admires Rickard’s energy: “He never complains, is never tired.”
Rickard prioritizes family time over phone distractions when home. He values that Daisy recognizes hockey’s significance in their lives: “Whenever she comes to the games she tells everyone her dad plays hockey.”
Rickard cherishes sharing his hockey journey with his children: “It will definitely be one of the highlights in my life after I’m done playing.”
