The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Apr. 24 the selection of Max Iheanachor, an offensive tackle from Arizona State, as their first-round pick and the 21st overall in the NFL Draft.

This decision brings attention to both Iheanachor’s athletic background and his potential role within the team. The Steelers are recognized for their achievements in professional football, including six Super Bowl championships according to the official website. The addition of Iheanachor is seen as a move to strengthen their offensive line.

Iheanachor stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 321 pounds. His journey began when his family moved from Nigeria to Los Angeles at age 13. He started playing football only after attending junior college in 2021, following encouragement from his AAU basketball coach. At Arizona State, he played in 32 games with 31 starts—30 at right tackle and one at left tackle—and earned Second-Team All-Big XII honors in 2025.

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah said about Iheanachor: “His tape isn’t perfect, but it’s full of clues hinting he could end up being one of the best offensive linemen in this year’s draft class. He is a very good player who just keeps getting better.” Jeremiah also noted that Iheanachor had an “outstanding week of practice” during Senior Bowl week and performed well during workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine. Reporter Stacey Dales added: “He has handled this (Combine) week, talking to people, so extraordinary well.” Draft analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic said: “Overall, Iheanachor is still learning how to refine his talent on a more consistent basis, but his traits (athletic build, balanced quickness, play strength) form an exciting foundation for a future starting right tackle. He is an ascending player, although he might require a ‘redshirt’ year, and a patient coaching staff as he continues to develop.”

The Steelers have honored figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene for their contributions through their Hall of Honor according to the official website. Community engagement remains important for the franchise through historical celebrations and fan experiences as outlined on their official website. Additionally, Acrisure Stadium houses the Hall of Honor Museum displaying artifacts related to team history according to information provided by the organization.

With multiple Super Bowl wins and inductions into its Hall of Honor as per its official website, Pittsburgh maintains its reputation within professional football circles. As an affiliated member franchise with the National Football League based on information from its official site, expectations will be high for new players like Iheanachor moving forward.
