The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Apr. 25 their selections and expectations for new players following the second day of the draft, highlighting how each will fit into the team’s plans.

This update matters as it provides insight into how recent draft picks may impact team performance, roster depth, and competition in key positions ahead of the new football season.

Wide receiver Germie Bernard was selected in the second round after a productive career at Alabama. Offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio said, “Certainly we see a guy that can play inside and outside. The flexibility is certainly always attractive when you’ve got a guy who could have multiple roles, when you can help on special teams and all four phases, and then certainly you have the flexibility to be able to put him in the backfield, move him around so the defense really can’t focus in on one area. More than anything else, he’s a clutch player. You know, he’s made a lot of big catches for Alabama in critical moments. You know that that’s where they were going with the ball, and you always want that in a player.” Bernard described himself as “a selfless guy… explosive with the ball in his hands” who aims to contribute to team success.

Quarterback Drew Allar from Penn State was chosen early in the third round. Quarterbacks coach Tom Arth said Allar is “big, strong,” with attributes suited for playing physical football: “He has big hands. He has a strong arm… And Drew certainly fits that mold.” Arth added he believes Allar’s selection does not affect Aaron Rodgers’ status with the team.

The Steelers also picked cornerback Daylen Everette from Georgia later in the third round. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham praised Everette’s combination of size and speed: “He has all the attributes to be a real physical presence out there on the perimeter.” Graham emphasized Everette’s seriousness about football and intelligence on defense.

With their final pick of day two, Pittsburgh drafted Gennings Dunker from Iowa as an offensive lineman expected to compete at guard. Offensive line coach James Campen said Dunker’s position flexibility adds value: “To be able to get a guy like him… his play is really unique; and you always look for guys that are first in line doing things that are challenging or different.” Dunker joins other players competing for starting spots along an offensive line known historically for producing NFL talent.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are affiliated with the National Football League as noted by their official website. The franchise has earned recognition through six Super Bowl championships according to its official records and honors contributors such as Terry Bradshaw through its Hall of Honor as listed online. Community engagement remains important through historical celebrations highlighted by experiences like those at Acrisure Stadium’s Hall of Honor Museum as described by club sources.

Looking ahead, competition among new draftees alongside returning players will shape training camp battles across several positions.
