During the recent hockey season, several members of the Pittsburgh Penguins family experienced significant life changes as they prepared to welcome new additions. Kevin and Katya Hayes, expecting their first child this month, encountered fellow team members Bryan and Kelsey Rust at an anatomy scan for their third child, Scottie, who was born on April 29.

Katya recalled the moment with Kelsey: “You were like, you did it?! I was like, yes! It was so sweet. We were so excited.” Bryan added that witnessing each other’s life milestones is a shared joy among friends.

Rickard and Emmeli Rakell welcomed son Ziggy on April 28 but missed crossing paths with the others that day. The couples often met at their shared practice in Wexford. Kelsey noted the camaraderie: “On those mornings, it was like, who’s in first?”

The group of expecting parents also included Tristan and Hannah Jarry, whose son Bennett arrived on April 21. The close-knit community provided comfort during pregnancies marked by demanding schedules and distant support systems.

Kelsey expressed relief at finding solidarity within the group: “When you find out you’re pregnant and somebody else in the same community is too…it brings the biggest sense of comfort.”

Emmeli emphasized the importance of this support network: “Even if some days you feel lonely, you’re truly never alone when you have a team.”

The Penguins organization offered crucial assistance during challenging times. When Emmeli faced hospitalization while Rickard was away with the team, arrangements were swiftly made for his return home. Emmeli praised this support: “Just how the organization stepped up…I had never really seen that before.”

Kelsey recounted her own medical scare after childbirth when she required surgery due to complications from a C-section. The team’s doctors ensured timely care and support throughout her recovery.

As experienced mothers, Kelsey and Emmeli extended guidance to first-time moms like Hannah Jarry and Katya Hayes. Hannah appreciated their advice: “I can just ask any question…everyone’s so supportive.”

Despite hectic schedules involving long road trips for games, players acknowledged their wives’ pivotal roles in managing family responsibilities. Bryan Rust remarked on his wife’s contributions: “They’re handling the groceries…if something goes wrong with the house…they’re calling people to fix it if we’re on the road.”

Returning home after games provides players with a much-needed respite from professional demands. Rickard Rakell described his family as a source of happiness: “Coming home to them…it’s a dream come true for me.”

For new fathers Kevin Hayes and Tristan Jarry, becoming parents fulfills long-held aspirations. Katya noted Kevin’s excitement about fatherhood: “Kevin has wanted to be a dad for 10 years now.” Tristan echoed similar sentiments about sharing this milestone with both sets of grandparents eagerly anticipating grandparenthood.

Navigating logistics posed challenges amid frequent travel commitments; however collective experiences helped ease transitions into parenthood across various locations including Edmonton Canada Boston USA Sweden Europe among others

Bryan Rust offered advice for upcoming months encouraging families enjoy every moment together regardless circumstances noting humorous memories formed along way
