A Pittsburgh resident has admitted guilt in a federal court for violating firearms laws, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan.
Keith Harris, aged 25, entered a guilty plea before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon. The court was informed that on June 11, 2024, Pittsburgh Police officers saw Harris fleeing an alley where two firearms were later found. Harris attempted to hide the loaded firearms—one of which was reported stolen—between a vending machine and beverage crates in the alleyway. As a felon with previous convictions, Harris is legally prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition.
Judge Bissoon has set the sentencing date for April 2, 2025. The law stipulates a maximum possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, or both. However, the actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and Harris’s prior criminal record as per federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Harris has been remanded into the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending his sentencing.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher on behalf of the government. The investigation leading to Harris’s prosecution was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with local law enforcement agencies.
