Corey Young, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville (UPT), has combined his nursing career with entrepreneurship in Meadville, Pennsylvania. While completing his nursing degree at Pitt-Titusville and working at a local grocery store, Young was approached by the owner of a longstanding framing shop who was preparing to retire. She offered Young and his partner, Christopher, the chance to purchase the business due to their shared interest in entrepreneurship. However, they initially declined because they could not make the finances work.
After graduating from UPT in 2021, Young began working as a cardiac nurse and later as a hospice nurse at Meadville Medical Center. He described his role as being “a lighthouse in the middle of the storm” for patients and their families.
Eventually, through connections within his community and some luck, Young received another opportunity to acquire French Creek Framing and Art. He now owns 70% of the business while learning custom framing techniques and pursuing further education to become a nurse practitioner.
Young is also active in local organizations. He serves as vice president of the Meadville Independent Business Alliance and is on the board of the Crawford Central Community Foundation. In these roles, he helps distribute grants and educates recipients about giving back.
“Being kind to someone goes a really long way,” said Young.
