The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a trade with the Buffalo Sabres, acquiring defenseman Colton Poolman in exchange for forward Bennett MacArthur. The announcement was made by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the Penguins.
Poolman is under contract through the 2024-25 season, with an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level. He will join Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League (AHL).
At 29 years old, Poolman has spent his entire five-year professional career in the AHL. His experience includes playing for Rochester, Calgary, and Stockton. Over 218 career AHL games, he has scored six goals and contributed 34 assists while maintaining a plus-33 rating. In addition to his regular-season performance, Poolman has recorded three assists in 27 Calder Cup Playoff games.
Before starting his professional career, Poolman played collegiate hockey at the University of North Dakota from 2016 to 2020. During his time there, he served as team captain in his senior year and accumulated 75 points from 18 goals and 57 assists over 146 regular-season games.
