The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially secured Filip Hallander’s services for an additional two years. This announcement by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, confirmed that Hallander’s contract would extend through the 2026-27 season with an average annual value of $775,000.
During the 2024-25 season, Hallander showcased his skills with Timra IK in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He posted career-best figures in goals (26), assists (27), and points (53), while also achieving a plus-16 rating. His 26 goals and 53 points placed him second in the entire league, with his assists tied for the 10th-most. Notably, his 53 points set a new single-season franchise record at Timra IK, surpassing Henrik Zetterberg’s previous 50-point record set during the 2004-05 season.
The Swedish forward, standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, has played in parts of five SHL seasons with Timra IK and Lulea HF, accumulating 148 points (65 goals, 83 assists) across 225 regular-season games. Hallander has also appeared in 22 SHL playoff games, where he collected 13 points (8 goals, 5 assists).
Hallander spent some time in North America between 2021 and 2023. During that period, he divided his playing time between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League (AHL). With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he tallied 25 goals, 36 assists, and 61 points over 104 games and appeared in three games with Pittsburgh.
Originating from Sundsvall, Sweden, Hallander was initially selected by Pittsburgh in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft with the 58th overall pick.
