The Pittsburgh Penguins will begin a three-game homestand by hosting the Buffalo Sabres at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 7 PM. The event coincides with Margaritaville Night, where fans can experience themed activities and live music throughout the game. The first 7,500 attendees will receive a Hawaiian shirt, courtesy of Levin Furniture & Mattress. Various bars in the arena will serve classic and prickly pear margaritas, and food options include cheeseburgers from Steel City Smash behind Sections 108 and 206. PensGear outlets will offer special Margaritaville-themed merchandise.

Thursday’s matchup is also designated as the Penguins Pledge Game, presented by U.S. Steel. Fans are invited to participate in free activities on the lower concourse, including viewing a live webcam of U.S. Steel’s resident bald eagles and a life-size eagle wingspan display in the Hall of Fame Hallway. Visitors can also learn about reducing food waste from 412 Food Rescue behind Section 104. National Aviary experts, along with penguin ambassadors, will be present before the game and during the first intermission behind Section 115.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN and available for radio listeners on 105.9 The X as well as through the Penguins app.

The Penguins enter this contest with a record of 31-16-13, while the Sabres stand at 36-19-6. Pittsburgh has had recent success against Buffalo, winning four out of their last five meetings (4-1-0) and posting a strong home record against them since March 2021.

Recent performances highlight several players: Anthony Mantha has accumulated 15 points in his last 13 games; Erik Karlsson is approaching career milestones among NHL defensemen; Egor Chinakhov has contributed significantly since joining Pittsburgh; Ben Kindel ranks among rookie goal leaders; Rickard Rakell is nearing his 300th career assist; Sam Girard is close to reaching his own assist milestone; Kris Letang is one point away from becoming just the fourth active defenseman to reach 800 career points.

Evgeni Malkin currently holds the longest active home point streak in the NHL with points in ten consecutive home games.

Goaltenders Stuart Skinner and Arturs Silovs have both played key roles recently. Skinner has helped secure points in seven of his last eight starts, while Silovs leads all NHL goaltenders since January 22 in save percentage and ranks second in goals against average over that period (minimum three games).

Pittsburgh’s impact extends beyond hockey achievements. The team forms an important part of Pittsburgh’s sports culture with strong community ties and fan traditions (official website). Their history includes numerous playoff appearances and division titles (official website), as well as recognition for Hall of Fame players, coaches, and executives who have contributed to their legacy (official website). Home games are hosted at PPG Paints Arena (official website), located downtown.

Ownership of the franchise belongs to Fenway Sports Group (official website), which oversees business operations for the organization.

As part of Thursday’s events, National Aviary experts will be present alongside penguin ambassadors to promote conservation efforts for endangered African Penguins.
