In a recent matchup, the Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the New Jersey Devils, resulting in a 3-2 shootout loss for Pittsburgh. The game saw Penguins captain Sidney Crosby briefly leave the ice after an awkward collision near the offensive blue line. “I got tangled up,” Crosby explained, but he later returned to play.

During Crosby’s absence, Kevin Hayes scored to tie the game at 2-2. The Devils had initially taken a 2-0 lead with two goals from Jack Hughes. Despite ultimately losing in the shootout, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan commended his team’s effort: “That’s not an easy loss when you lose a guy like that for a period of time.”

Rickard Rakell also contributed by scoring for Pittsburgh after being added to Sweden’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster. He made it 2-1 following a disallowed goal earlier in the first period due to a kicking motion. “I just tried to kick it to my stick,” Rakell commented on the situation.

The second period was marked by special teams play, including an early double minor penalty against P.O Joseph for high sticking. Crosby noted that Pittsburgh pushed hard in the third period before heading into extra time.

Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic delivered strong performance throughout the night and acknowledged room for improvement during the shootout. However, Crosby praised his efforts: “He gave us a chance. He made some big saves all night.”

This game was Pittsburgh’s last home match before their upcoming road games in New York City and Philadelphia as part of their annual Highmark Dads Trip.

Coach Sullivan expressed optimism about his team’s prospects: “We’re trying to stay in the fight here for playoff spot… We got two left before the break.”
