The Pittsburgh Penguins will host an auction of green ‘Sports Matter’ jerseys on February 1, coinciding with their game against the Nashville Predators at PPG Paints Arena. This initiative supports The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation Sports Matter program.
The auction includes jerseys from current Pittsburgh Penguins players and other athletes such as former MLB player David Ortiz and ex-NFL players Charlie Batch, Jerome Bettis, and Brett Keisel. Memorabilia and experiences will also be available for bidding starting February 1 at 5:30 PM via http://sportsmatter.givesmart.com/. All proceeds will go to The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation Sports Matter program.
Additional activities on Saturday include fans receiving a Sports Matter-themed cheer card, Penguins coaches and staff wearing special green lace pins, and Sports Matter cheer cards featuring stories from local youth hockey participants lining the players’ walkway. The DICK’S Sporting Goods Wall of Champions Hallway will offer free themed activities for fans, including a photo opportunity.
Participants from Pittsburgh Inclusion Creates Equality (I.C.E.) will perform during the first intermission at PPG Paints Arena. This is part of a showcase for the NHL “Hockey is for Everyone” program that provides ice hockey opportunities to children from diverse backgrounds.
The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation collaborates with The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation to support youth hockey through programs like the Willie O’Ree Academy, DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, and Little Penguins Learn to Play.
Additionally, $10 from each ticket purchased through this special Sports Matter ticket offer will benefit The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation Sports Matter initiatives.
