Penguins acquire goaltender Arturs Silovs from Vancouver Canucks

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the acquisition of goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks. In exchange, the Penguins will send forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick to Vancouver. This transaction was confirmed by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager for the Penguins.

Arturs Silovs, aged 24, is under contract through the 2025-26 season with an average annual value of $850,000. He recently had a standout season with the Abbotsford Canucks in the American Hockey League (AHL), leading them to win the Calder Cup Championship as Playoff MVP. During the regular season, Silovs played 21 games, achieving a record of 14-5-2 with a .908 save percentage and a career-best goals-against average of 2.41. In their playoff run to secure their first Calder Cup, he posted a record of 16-7 in 24 games with a goals-against average of 2.01 and a .931 save percentage.

Throughout his five seasons in the AHL with Abbotsford and Manitoba, Silovs has played in 110 games with a record of 59-35-13, maintaining a goals-against average of 2.58 and a .906 save percentage along with nine shutouts. In his Calder Cup Playoff career spanning 26 games, he holds a record of 17-8 with a goals-against average of 2.08 and .929 save percentage.

Silovs has also appeared in parts of three NHL seasons with Vancouver since being drafted by them in the sixth round (156th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft. He has played in 19 NHL games recording a goals-against average of 3.13 and .880 save percentage.

Internationally, Silovs hails from Riga, Latvia and has represented his country multiple times including at World Championships in both 2023 and ’22 as well as at the World Under-18 Championship in 2018. At the recent World Championship in 2023, he led Latvia to win bronze while earning honors as Most Valuable Player and Best Goaltender.
