Payton Wilson, inside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been named the Steelers Digest Player of the Week following his performance in a recent game at Acrisure Stadium. The matchup, initially expected to be dominated by high offensive output due to one team’s strong scoring record and the other’s defensive struggles in previous weeks, instead featured key plays from the Steelers’ defense.
Wilson recorded a team-high 13 tackles on defense and added another on special teams. He also made an interception and defended two passes. One of those deflections led to an interception by Jack Sawyer. Both turnovers attributed to Wilson were converted into touchdowns, contributing significantly to the Steelers’ 27-20 victory.
Other players considered for the weekly honor included Alex Highsmith, who registered four tackles (two for sacks), a tackle-for-loss on a running play, and forced a fumble that Derrick Harmon recovered; T.J. Watt, with three tackles and a strip-sack where he recovered the fumble; Joey Porter Jr., who posted eight tackles, one sack, one interception, and four passes defensed; and Aaron Rodgers, who completed 25 of 35 passes for 203 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
