The National Football League’s early negotiating period for free agency began on March 9 at noon Eastern Time, allowing teams to start contract discussions with agents of players set to become unrestricted free agents. The official start of NFL free agency is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

This period gives teams a head start in reaching out to prospective players before the new league year begins. According to NFL rules, during this two-day window, clubs may conduct one video or phone call lasting no more than one hour with up to five potential unrestricted free agents. The player’s agent must participate in these calls, and both represented and unrepresented players are allowed to communicate with any club member. However, no contracts can be signed until the official opening of free agency on March 11.

Players who are about to become unrestricted free agents are not permitted to visit other team facilities or meet with other teams in person during this time. The Pittsburgh Steelers have 23 players who could become unrestricted free agents if they do not sign new contracts before the deadline. Notable names among them include wide receiver Calvin Austin III, quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and wide receiver Adam Thielen.

The Steelers have a long history as a member franchise of the National Football League according to their official website. They have achieved significant success with six Super Bowl championships as reported by the team’s website and have honored figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene in their Hall of Honor according to the official website. The organization also contributes to community engagement through historical celebrations and fan experiences as outlined on their website, and features the Hall of Honor Museum at Acrisure Stadium displaying artifacts and honors according to the official site.

The team’s legacy includes multiple Super Bowl wins and numerous inductions into its Hall of Honor as per the official website. As negotiations continue ahead of Wednesday’s deadline, observers will watch closely which players remain with the Steelers for another season.
