Max Iheanachor toured the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on April 25, smiling as he began his journey with the Pittsburgh Steelers following his selection in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Iheanachor, who will wear number 71 for the team, arrived in Pittsburgh and described feeling energized by a warm welcome from fans at the airport.

The arrival of a new player is significant for both the team and its supporters. The Steelers have a history of honoring their players and engaging with fans through events and celebrations, according to their official website.

“Just even coming off the plane this morning, I’m thinking, I’m ready for this,” said Iheanachor. “It felt like a dream. That’s what this is about, the excitement. I’m ready to just put on for Steelers Nation man and give it my all, come every day and work hard for sure.” He also shared that being greeted by cheering fans gave him more energy despite arriving tired from travel.

Iheanachor spoke about his family’s move from Nigeria when he was thirteen years old. “My parents did it for us kids, for all of us,” he said. “Just putting us in a better position to get the best education out there. They like lawyers and doctors, I’m not a lawyer and doctor, but close to it. They were excited. I am excited. Everyone was excited.” Although football was not initially part of his plans after arriving in America, he decided to pursue it after high school: “My mom was worried a little bit, but it happened,” he said.

The Steelers are known as one of the most successful franchises in National Football League history with six Super Bowl championships according to their official website. The organization has also recognized notable figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene through its Hall of Honor as listed online, while celebrating achievements through community engagement initiatives outlined on their site. Fans can visit artifacts related to these honors at Acrisure Stadium’s Hall of Honor Museum according to team information.

Reflecting on his path from Nigeria to becoming an NFL draft pick, Iheanachor said: “I’ll be lying if I told you I did expect it… It’s really just God. Shout out to him… Shout out my parents also for bringing me out here… And now I’m walking around the facility, meeting everyone… It’s crazy. I’m just excited.”
