Former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has been named to the NHL Quarter-Century Team. This team honors the top 25 players of the last 25 years and was announced by the National Hockey League. The selection process involved input from NHL officials followed by a fan vote.
Fleury, aged 40, is recognized as one of the best goaltenders over the past quarter-century. He has won three Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh in 2009, 2016, and 2017 during his 22-year career spanning four teams: Pittsburgh, Vegas, Chicago, and Minnesota. His career statistics include playing in 1,051 regular-season games with a record of 575-339-97 and achieving 76 shutouts. These achievements place him at or near the top in various goaltending categories since the year 2000.
In postseason play, Fleury’s record includes playing in 170 games with 92 wins and recording 16 shutouts. His contributions have earned him numerous individual accolades including four NHL All-Star Game selections (2011, ’15, ’18, ’19), a Second-Team NHL All-Star selection (2021), a Vezina Trophy (2021), and a William M. Jennings Trophy (2021).
Fleury spent most of his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2003 to 2017 where he holds nearly every major goaltending record for the club. His records include most games played (691), wins (375), and shutouts (44). Additionally, he ranks first in goals-against average at 2.58 among Penguins goalies who have played at least 100 games.
During his time with Pittsburgh, Fleury received several club awards such as three Players’ Player Awards (2015, ’16, ’17) and two Baz Bastien Memorial Awards – Good Guy Awards (2010, ’12). He was drafted first overall by Pittsburgh in the first round of the 2003 NHL Draft and is one of only three goaltenders ever selected first overall.
