Hockey Canada has named Kyle Dubas as the general manager of Canada’s National Men’s Team for the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Championship. The tournament will take place from May 9 to 25 in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark. Dubas, who played a crucial role in helping Team Canada secure victory at the recent 4 Nations Face-Off, will be returning to the Men’s Worlds for the second year in a row after fulfilling the role of associate general manager in 2024.

Ryan Getzlaf and Scott Salmond will be providing support to Dubas. Getzlaf takes on the role of player relations advisor, while Salmond continues his duties as the senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations.

A selection committee comprising four NHL executives, Dennis Bonvie, Gregory Campbell, Andrew Cogliano, and Jason Spezza, will assist in player evaluation and team selection for the tournament.

The decision to appoint Dubas and form the selection committee was made by Doug Armstrong, with contributions from Scott Salmond and Katherine Henderson. Armstrong noted, “Kyle is an excellent general manager, and his recent experience at the 4 Nations Face-Off and last year’s Men’s Worlds will be beneficial in building and leading Canada’s National Men’s Team as it looks to reclaim gold at the IIHF World Championship.”

Dubas is currently serving his second season as general manager and president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins, following a successful tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Marlies.

Further details regarding the coaching staff and team roster for the 2025 IIHF World Championship will be unveiled in the forthcoming weeks. Team Canada is set to commence the tournament with a match against Slovenia on May 10. Prior to the championship, Canada will face Austria and Hungary in pre-tournament games in Vienna and Budapest, respectively.
