Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has appointed Dr. Jeffrey S. Mueller as the chair of its Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences. Dr. Mueller, a board-certified radiologist, had been serving in this role on an interim basis throughout 2025.

Dr. Mueller’s career at AHN includes several leadership roles within the AHN Imaging Institute, such as vice chair, operations officer, quality officer, division director of Cardiothoracic Imaging, and clinical director of the Lung Cancer Screening Program. His clinical expertise spans cardiothoracic imaging with a focus on lung cancer screening, high-resolution chest CT, cardiac CT, breast imaging, body imaging, and general radiology.

In his new role as chair of radiology, Dr. Mueller will lead a team providing essential imaging services and supporting minimally invasive procedures across AHN’s network.

Dr. Mueller takes over from Bethany Casagranda who served as the department’s chair since 2017 and is now AHN’s Chief Medical Officer and president of Allegheny Clinic.

“Dr. Mueller is a proven leader and exceptionally talented, innovative clinician,” said Dr. Casagranda. “Under his guidance, AHN’s Department of Radiology and Imaging Services will continue to flourish in providing advanced imaging care across the network.”

Dr. Mueller obtained his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center followed by fellowships in cardiothoracic radiology from the University of Maryland Medical Center and breast imaging at Allegheny General Hospital.

He holds certification from the American Board of Radiology along with a Cardiac MRI Certificate of Proficiency from the American College of Radiology.

“I am excited to build upon the strong foundation established by Dr. Casagranda,” said Dr. Mueller.
