HBO Max partnered with Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) and photographer Chancelor Humphrey to recreate character art from the drama series ‘THE PITT’ using real emergency department staff, according to an announcement on April 10. The collaboration aimed to highlight the connection between the show and the medical professionals who inspire its stories.
The photo series features AGH emergency department employees in cinematic portraits styled after the show’s season two key art. A behind-the-scenes video was also produced, showing staff discussing how they relate to the program. Both were released through HBO Max’s and AHN’s social media channels following a new episode of ‘THE PITT.’
Humphrey, known for his ‘Keep Pittsburgh Dope’ brand, captured all content for this project. His work regularly spotlights local people and events on social media platforms.
Since its beginning, AGH has served as both a setting and inspiration for ‘THE PITT,’ which has been recognized for portraying contemporary health care challenges accurately. “We are honored that our dedicated caregivers at AGH are being recognized in such a powerful and authentic way by HBO Max,” said Imran Qadeer, president, MD. “This artistic series highlights the daily courage, compassion and resilience of our emergency medicine staff who are true heroes in our community.”
Allegheny Health Network advances community health by serving patients across 29 Pennsylvania counties and parts of neighboring states according to the official website. The network manages 14 hospitals—including AGH—nine surgical centers, multiple health pavilions, more than 2,500 beds, over 22,000 employees according to the official website, and operates under Highmark Health according to the official website. Several AHN hospitals hold Magnet designation for nursing excellence according to the official website.
Looking ahead, both organizations say they hope this collaboration will continue drawing attention to frontline workers’ efforts while deepening ties between entertainment projects like ‘THE PITT’ and those working in real-life hospital settings.
