Pictures have the power to capture moments that are remembered by many and unseen by others. Steelers.com has launched ‘Picture Perfect,’ a series showcasing historical photos of the Pittsburgh Steelers, with a focus on sharing stories from the team’s past.
In one feature, former linebacker Greg Lloyd’s unique fashion choice is highlighted. Known for his tough demeanor, Lloyd often wore a shirt with the message “I wasn’t hired for my disposition.” This shirt was a gift from children at an elementary school where he spoke. “I told the kids I was going to wear the t-shirt every day,” said Lloyd. The shirt became part of his identity, symbolizing his transformation into a formidable player on game days.
Lloyd’s reputation as ‘Just Plain Nasty’ was well-known among fans and teammates alike. He played as part of the Steelers’ ‘Blitzburgh’ defense, known for its aggressive play style. “We were a group of guys that held each other accountable,” said Lloyd about his teammates.
Despite his tough exterior, Lloyd appreciated what football brought into his life and valued the support from Art Rooney Sr., known as ‘The Chief,’ and Dan Rooney Sr. During an early career injury, ‘The Chief’ visited him in the hospital and offered words of encouragement that left a lasting impact on Lloyd.
