Penguin Random House has announced the release of “Hard Lessons from the Hurt Business: Boxing and the Art of Life,” a new book by former heavyweight boxer Ed Latimore. The publication traces Latimore’s journey from Pittsburgh’s public housing to the professional boxing ring.

According to Penguin Random House, the book was released on August 5, 2025. “Hard Lessons from the Hurt Business: Boxing and the Art of Life” follows Latimore’s path from Pittsburgh’s public housing projects to signing with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports. The narrative uses boxing as a framework for confronting life’s challenges and demonstrates how struggle can shape character.

Latimore details his experiences in the ring alongside battles with childhood trauma and alcoholism. He presents the lessons of boxing—discipline, endurance, and focus—as tools for building a purposeful life. The story transitions from hardship to personal growth, emphasizing self-mastery and resilience after setbacks.

Outside of boxing, Latimore is an author, chess player, and founder of Stoic Street-Smarts. He has built a large online following through social media and his newsletter. “Hard Lessons from the Hurt Business” offers a candid look at facing pain, accepting it, and turning it into lasting change.
