Pittsburgh Penguins alternate captain Evgeni Malkin and local McDonald’s restaurants have partnered to donate $71,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Pittsburgh and Morgantown. This contribution is part of Malkin’s ‘I’m Score for Kids’ initiative for the 2024-25 season.
Malkin, who scored 50 points during the regular season, pledged to donate $710 for each point, totaling $35,500. Local McDonald’s restaurants matched this donation, bringing the overall amount donated this season to $71,000.
Since the initiative’s inception before the 2022-23 season, Malkin and the participating McDonald’s restaurants have donated $284,000 to the RMHC of Pittsburgh and Morgantown over three seasons.
“We are incredibly fortunate to be part of something so special,” stated Eleanor Reigel, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown. “Raising both awareness and support for the Charity, this initiative is giving families the comfort they need while far from home with a sick child.”
Joe Nyanko, TROA Co-Op President, also commented, “We’re thrilled to offer our support to such a fun campaign that also has a significant impact on the work of RMHC. Knowing that families will benefit from our collaboration is a source of pride for all of us here at the Three Rivers Owners Association.”
RMHC provides accommodation for families who travel to obtain medical care for their children, allowing them to stay close to their child. In 2024, RMHC Pittsburgh and Morgantown assisted 833 families, providing 19,786 nights of stay. Patients and families came from various locations, including 40 counties in West Virginia, 53 counties in Pennsylvania, 39 states, and eight countries, with stays ranging from a few days to several months.
All 205 McDonald’s restaurants in the Three Rivers area are operated by local business owners, employing 50 to 100 residents from the community.
