Derrick Harmon, a defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been named the Steelers Digest Player of the Week. The recognition comes after his performance in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Acrisure Stadium.
With several key defensive players, including T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey, Patrick Queen, Darius Slay, Joey Porter Jr., DeShon Elliott, Alex Highsmith, and Cam Heyward sitting out the game, Harmon took on a larger role. He made 3 tackles and recorded his first sack with the team. This was also the Steelers’ first sack of this preseason. The game ended in a 17-14 loss to Tampa Bay.
Harmon is expected to contribute during the regular season opener on September 7.
Other players considered for Player of the Week honors included inside linebacker Cole Holcomb (4 tackles), running back Kaleb Johnson (11 carries for 50 yards and 1 catch for 9 yards), wide receiver Roman Wilson (2 catches for 72 yards), outside linebacker Eku Leota (4 tackles including 2 tackles for loss and a quarterback hit), wide receiver Brandon Johnson (3 catches for 16 yards including a touchdown and 2 special teams tackles), cornerback Brandin Echols (2 tackles and a pass defensed), and running back Lew Nichols (3 carries for 42 yards).
