The countdown for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh has officially started. The event, scheduled for April 23-25, 2026, promises to draw a large crowd to the city. On Monday, Pittsburgh unveiled the 2026 NFL Draft Countdown Clock on the North Shore Great Lawn, with Acrisure Stadium and the city skyline as its backdrop.
Jerad Bachar, President and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH, expressed excitement about hosting the draft: “Pittsburgh is officially on the clock, and we couldn’t be more excited.” He emphasized that the clock symbolizes the city’s preparation to welcome visitors from around the world.
Steelers President Art Rooney II shared his enthusiasm during a press conference on the North Shore. Rooney noted that hosting such an event would bring fun and attention to Pittsburgh. “What this is really going to be about is having fun,” he said. He also highlighted upcoming events in Pittsburgh, including a game in Ireland.
The six-foot-wide clock sits atop an 18-foot-tall steel beam designed by local firms Actual Size and Carpenters Connection. The beam features engraved notches representing Pittsburgh’s football legacy and neighborhoods. Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato commented on its significance: “This structure serves both as a reminder of our roots and an installation that everyone across Allegheny County can be proud of.”
The previous NFL Draft in Green Bay attracted 600,000 fans and provided economic benefits to local communities. A similar impact is anticipated for Pittsburgh, with representatives from all 32 NFL teams expected to attend.
Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey anticipates a significant turnout: “When the NFL Draft comes to Pittsburgh, the world will witness a city that’s powered by passion.” He sees it as more than just an event but as an opportunity for reunion and global exposure.
