In a recent NFL matchup, Cam Heyward, the 35-year-old defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, showcased his skills and resilience. Despite being in his 14th season, Heyward demonstrated that age has not diminished his performance on the field.
During the game against the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium, Heyward contributed significantly to the Steelers’ 27-14 victory. He recorded three tackles and two of the team’s three sacks. This win improved the Steelers’ record to 10-3 and extended their lead over Baltimore in the AFC North to two games with four remaining.
One of Heyward’s notable plays was a sack during a crucial moment in the fourth quarter. The play started as a third-and-6 from the Steelers’ 21-yard line. After bringing down Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, an unnecessary roughness penalty by Browns offensive tackle Germain Ifedi forced Cleveland to punt instead of reducing their deficit further.
Heyward’s performance this season has been impressive, with eight sacks placing him just behind teammate T.J. Watt’s team-leading 9.5 sacks. His career total now stands at 88.5 sacks, ranking him second on the franchise’s all-time list. As a result of his outstanding contribution in this game, he has been named the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
Other players considered for this recognition included safety DeShon Elliott with 13 tackles and a pass defensed; inside linebacker Patrick Queen with ten tackles and a pass defensed; quarterback Russell Wilson who completed 15-of-26 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns; inside linebacker Elandon Roberts with three tackles including one for a five-yard loss; punter Corliss Waitman who averaged 52.3 yards on six punts; and wide receiver Ben Skowronek who made two special teams tackles and recovered a muffed punt.
