For the seventh year in a row, Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of “America’s Best-In-State Employers.” The annual list highlights top employers in each state based on survey responses from more than 160,000 employees working at companies with at least 500 staff members across the United States.

AHN is one of 13 hospitals or health systems in Pennsylvania to be included this year. The organization has appeared on the Forbes list every year since it was first introduced in 2019.

The ranking process, conducted by Forbes and Statista, asks employees to rate their workplace on criteria such as working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, opportunities for development, and company image. The overall score combines both personal evaluations from employees and public assessments from friends, family members of employees, or people who work within the same industry. After collecting responses, Forbes divides its rankings into lists for all 50 states and Washington D.C.

“We are proud to receive ongoing recognition as a top employer in Pennsylvania by one of the country’s most respected business journals,” said Mark Sevco, president of AHN. “This reflects AHN’s commitment to creating a supportive environment where our caregivers feel valued, respected and empowered. We believe that when our team members thrive, our organization thrives, and this recognition is a testament to that philosophy.”

In recent years AHN has continued investing in programs aimed at improving employee well-being. Earlier this year it expanded its digital nursing program with new virtual care platforms that enable nurses to monitor and communicate with patients remotely through “smart rooms.” In 2023 AHN received the American Medical Association’s Joy in Medicine designation for its efforts to address stress and burnout among faculty using evidence-based strategies.

As part of Highmark Health, AHN employs about 23,700 people statewide.

Forbes Magazine is known for its business journalism as well as its rankings and lists; it has been published since 1917.
