Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has announced the appointment of two new leaders to its executive team. Lou Baverso will join as the chief operating officer and president of AHN hospitals, effective September 8. Baverso comes from UAB Health System in Alabama, where he served as COO. His experience includes executing strategic plans and integrating a significant acquisition for UAB.

Baverso’s career began at UPMC, where he held various administrative roles, including market president for UPMC’s Central Pennsylvania region. He is expected to direct AHN’s operational strategy and oversee daily operations.

“Lou comes to AHN with an exceptional track record in operational leadership,” said Mark Sevco, president of AHN. “His unique skillset and experience will help us achieve our mission.”

Ezz-Eldin “Dean” Moukamal has been appointed as the Chief Quality Officer after serving in the interim role since 2024. Dr. Moukamal will lead quality and safety strategies across the network, aligning with Highmark Health’s initiatives.

Under his leadership, several AHN hospitals received top grades in The Leapfrog Group’s safety survey. Dr. Moukamal also managed through supply shortages caused by Hurricane Helene without major disruptions.

“Dean is a tremendous physician leader,” Sevco stated. “Both Dean and Lou are incredibly talented executives, and we are thrilled they will be part of our leadership teams.”
