Ashley M. Carlucci has been appointed as the new Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) for Allegheny Health Network (AHN), effective April 13, according to an announcement made by the organization. In her new role, Carlucci will oversee approximately 6,000 nurses working in various capacities across AHN.

Carlucci previously served as Market Chief Nursing Officer at University Hospitals, a system with 21 hospitals in northeast Ohio. Her responsibilities there included leading nursing strategy and operations across seven regional hospitals. She was involved in integrating multiple hospital systems and implementing leadership development programs that improved engagement, quality, and operational performance.

“Ashley is an outstanding leader who has consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to elevating nursing practice and fostering a culture of compassion, clinical excellence, and professional accountability,” said Mark Sevco, president of AHN. “Her purpose-driven approach to leadership and mentorship inspires nursing innovation, advocacy, and excellence in human caring. We are thrilled to welcome her to Pittsburgh.”

Carlucci holds an associate’s degree and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Kent State University. She also earned master’s degrees in nursing science and health administration from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University.

She is affiliated with the American Organization for Nursing Leadership and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Her research on topics such as triad leadership, emotional intelligence, and collaborative care models has appeared in several clinical and nursing journals.

“I am honored to join the AHN leadership team and to partner with the extraordinary nurses across the network who deliver exceptional, compassionate care every day,” Carlucci said. “I look forward to listening, learning, and building strong relationships throughout AHN as we advance nursing excellence, strengthen our workforce for the future, and position AHN as both the employer and provider of choice in the communities we serve.”

Four hospitals within AHN—Allegheny General Hospital, West Penn Hospital, Jefferson Hospital, and Saint Vincent—have received Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This designation places them among the top nine percent of U.S. hospitals for meeting rigorous standards for nursing excellence.
