Allegheny Health Network (AHN) reported a record number of births in 2025, with more than 8,700 babies delivered across its labor and delivery units in western Pennsylvania. The most common name for boys was Henry, given to 42 newborns at AHN facilities last year. Bennett followed closely with 40 occurrences.

For girls, Olivia maintained its position as the top name for the fourth consecutive year at AHN, with 43 babies receiving the name. Amelia ranked second with 40 uses and has held that spot for three years.

The top five names for boys born at AHN in 2025 were Henry, Bennett, Owen, Theodore, and William. For girls, the leading names were Olivia, Amelia, Charlotte, Sophia, and Violet.

Marcia Klein-Patel, MD, PhD, Chair of AHN Women’s Institute said: “We look forward to releasing this list annually as a celebration of all the beautiful babies born across Allegheny Health Network, and we also take this special moment to recognize and applaud the hundreds of L&D clinicians who deliver remarkable patient experiences daily.” She added: “We are also incredibly proud to announce a record-breaking year for our maternity units, especially as reports indicate that births have been decreasing nationally in recent years. These trends are a testament to this network’s unwavering commitment to accessible, high-quality obstetric care in western Pennsylvania.”

AHN recorded a total of 8,756 births in 2025—the highest since it was established by Highmark Health in 2013.

Dr. Klein-Patel further stated: “Over the last decade, this network has made a concerted effort to increase the number of obstetrics units in the region, adding not only AHN Jefferson’s program but opening AHN Wexford hospital in 2021. We have also made significant investments to strategically affiliate with leading independent OB/GYN practices across our service area all to preserve and steward exceptional obstetrics care for the families we have the privilege of serving.”

More than 2,000 unique baby names appeared just once each among AHN births last year. Nationally popular names like Olivia and Amelia matched local trends at AHN; however Henry—while topping local charts—ranked only thirteenth nationwide among boys’ names.

The top thirty baby names across all AHN hospitals included both traditional choices such as Joseph and Charlotte alongside contemporary picks like Rowan and Aurora.

Clinicians from the AHN Women’s Institute provide comprehensive support from conception through postpartum recovery. The institute collaborates with behavioral health professionals and pediatricians on issues including postpartum depression and specialized infant care plans.

Facilities such as Forbes Hospital offer Level II neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for non-critical cases while Saint Vincent and West Penn hospitals can accommodate critically ill infants with advanced Level III NICUs. Pediatricians work closely with new families during postpartum stays—conducting screenings and consultations—and ensure coordinated follow-up after discharge through collaboration between OB/GYN physicians and pediatric caregivers.
