Allegheny Health Network’s Wexford Hospital has been recognized as one of the quietest hospitals in the United States during nighttime hours, based on patient surveys conducted by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). For four consecutive years, AHN Wexford has achieved this distinction, with 72% of patients reporting that their surroundings were “always quiet at night,” surpassing both national and Pennsylvania averages.

In a recent CMS data snapshot from winter 2025, AHN Wexford’s “always quiet” percentage increased to 74%, earning it a five-star rating in the quietness category. This recognition places AHN Wexford among only two general acute-care hospitals in Pennsylvania to receive such a designation in 2025.

Lisa Graper, Chief Nursing Officer at AHN Wexford, emphasized the importance of noise reduction for patient satisfaction and recovery. She noted that efforts include staff training and hospital design elements like private rooms and soft-closing drawers.

Nationally, 314 hospitals received top ratings for nighttime noise; however, many are specialized facilities without ICUs or emergency rooms. This context highlights AHN Wexford’s achievement.

Allan Klapper, President of AHN Wexford, underscored the hospital’s commitment to exceptional patient experiences. He stated that maintaining a quiet environment is crucial for healing and reducing stress.

AHN Wexford also excels in other experience measures such as cleanliness and nurse communication. It is among fewer than 300 hospitals nationwide to earn five stars for overall patient experience, placing it in the top six percent nationally.

The hospital opened in 2021 and continues to garner accolades. Earlier this year, it received Press Ganey’s Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award for patient experience. Last year, it was Western Pennsylvania’s only hospital to achieve a five-star CMS rating for overall quality.
