AHN Wexford Hospital has been recognized as a top performer in the 2025 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking by Vizient, Inc. The hospital was one of only 21 nationwide in the community hospital cohort to receive this distinction, making it the only facility in Western Pennsylvania to be honored and placing it among the top 9 percent of community hospitals across the country.

“This recognition from Vizient reflects the tireless dedication of our entire AHN Wexford team. From our physicians and nurses to our support staff, everyone is committed to providing the highest quality, safest and most effective care possible for our patients and community,” said Allan Klapper, MD, president of AHN Wexford Hospital.

The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study evaluated 1,220 participating hospitals across seven cohorts. It assessed performance on six key domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness, and variation in care. Data sources included the Vizient Clinical Data Base as well as results from national surveys such as the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey and information from the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.

The annual study aims to help hospitals benchmark their quality performance against peers and identify best practices associated with high-quality care delivery.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to this year’s top-performing hospitals recognized in the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study,” said David Levine, chief medical officer at Vizient. “These organizations have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care. Their performance reflects the highest standards in clinical quality and operational excellence, and we are proud to honor their achievements.”

AHN Wexford Hospital is located north of Pittsburgh in Pine Township. Since opening in 2021 with 158 inpatient beds and a 24-bed emergency department serving both adults and children, it has received multiple awards for quality, safety, and patient experience.

Vizient serves more than two-thirds of acute care providers nationwide as well as over one-third of ambulatory providers through its healthcare improvement solutions.
