Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn Hospital has been recognized for the fourth consecutive year by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals for obstetrics and gynecology. The hospital was ranked 35th in the country for OB/GYN, continuing its placement among leading facilities for women’s care.

The annual rankings from U.S. News assess hospitals that provide complex care related to pelvic, cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers, as well as other diseases and procedures. Criteria include patient survival rates within 30 days of treatment, patient volume, access to advanced technologies and services, patient experience feedback, and reputation among board-certified physicians.

“Allegheny Health Network is immensely proud of the AHN West Penn team and the AHN Women’s Institute,” stated Marcia Klein-Patel, MD, PhD, OB/GYN physician and chair of AHN Women’s Institute. “This marks the fourth year in a row that U.S. News & World Report has acknowledged our commitment to women’s health, and this remarkable achievement is a direct result of the tireless efforts and compassionate care provided by our extraordinary physicians and clinicians day in and day out. Their unwavering dedication to positive health outcomes and the well-being of women across this region is at the heart of our continued success.”

West Penn Hospital serves as Allegheny Health Network’s main labor and delivery center with approximately 4,000 births annually. It features a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for critically ill newborns. The hospital also offers specialized support through programs like the AHN Women’s Behavioral Health unit and the Alexis Joy D’Achille Center for Perinatal Mental Health.

The hospital’s gynecologic oncology team provides care for patients with reproductive cancers such as ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. This team works closely with the AHN Cancer Institute on research initiatives and clinical trials.

Other Allegheny Health Network hospitals also received recognition in this year’s U.S. News rankings. Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) was named a Best Regional Hospital after being rated highly in 15 specialties including cardiovascular medicine, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, heart surgery procedures such as bypass surgery or valve replacement; cancer surgeries; spinal fusion; hip and knee replacements; diabetes; COPD; leukemia; lymphoma; hip fracture treatment; arrhythmia management; pacemaker installation; colon cancer surgery; lung cancer surgery.

Forbes Hospital was noted for high performance in areas such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, arrhythmia management, heart failure treatment, COPD care, colon/lung cancer surgeries along with joint replacements.

Jefferson Hospital earned recognition for diabetes management along with orthopedic/neurologic spinal fusion procedures plus various cancer treatments.

Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie was highlighted for arrhythmia care alongside TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) procedures and colon cancer treatment.

Allegheny Valley Hospital received distinction specifically for its COPD program.

“We are extremely grateful for the exceptional caregiving teams at AHN West Penn, AGH and all of the AHN hospitals whose clinical services were lauded this year by US News,” said Mark Sevco, AHN president and CEO. “This recognition signifies not just the excellence of our clinical programs, but the tremendous value that our services and people bring to the communities we serve.”
