Four hospitals within the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) have been awarded ‘A’ grades in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2025 safety rating survey. Forbes, Wexford, Allegheny Valley, and Grove City hospitals were recognized for their patient care quality and safety.
Forbes Hospital achieved an ‘A’ grade for the sixth consecutive cycle of Leapfrog reporting. “At AHN, our guiding principle is simple: to provide every patient with the safest, most effective, and most compassionate care possible,” said Mark Sevco, president of AHN. He added that these grades are a validation of their commitment to exceptional safety outcomes.
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization focused on improving awareness of healthcare quality and safety. Their Safety Grade report assigns hospitals across the country a grade from A to F based on performance in preventing medical errors and other harm to patients. This report is updated biannually for nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals.
Forbes Hospital has served Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs for over 40 years and maintains eastern Allegheny County’s only Level 2 Trauma Center. It has consistently received an ‘A’ Safety Grade since fall 2022. “At AHN Forbes Hospital, our goal is to continuously improve and deliver the safest, highest-quality care possible,” stated Ezz-Eldin Moukamal, MD.
AHN Wexford Hospital opened in September 2021 and has now received its third ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog. Located north of Pittsburgh in Pine Township, it is AHN’s newest full-service hospital.
Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH), serving Natrona Heights and surrounding communities for over a century, completed a $12 million expansion of its imaging department in 2024. Meanwhile, AHN Grove City Hospital remains Mercer County’s primary acute-care facility with a Level IV trauma center.
