When Aaron Rodgers joined the Pittsburgh Steelers before minicamp, he had a clear vision for the type of games he wanted to play. Speaking after practice on Wednesday, Rodgers reflected on his recent experiences in the league and emphasized his desire to compete late into the season.
“I’ve been a part of a locker room the last couple years where you get to December and you start talking about your offseason plans, where you’ll be, your travel plans. That’s not a whole lot of fun,” Rodgers said. “You want to be in here talking about the game, talking about meaningful snaps, talking about doing something special. And it starts with this week against Baltimore.”
The Steelers are currently positioned to clinch the AFC North championship if they secure a win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night. The team has won three of its last four games and is aiming for continued success as the season nears its end.
“We would’ve taken it for sure,” Rodgers commented on the team’s progress after being 6-6 just a month ago.
Despite coming off a loss at Cleveland, where Rodgers posted a passer rating of 64.9, he noted his history of rebounding from challenging performances. In previous instances this season following low ratings, he led the team to victories over New England, Cincinnati, and Baltimore.
“In the last 11 games in which Rodgers has compiled a passer rating of less than 70, he’s bounced back to quarterback a win 10 times,” highlighting his ability to recover quickly.
“You’ve seen my career; I don’t have a lot of stinkers back-to-back over the years,” he said. “So, it’s the same mindset every week, same approach, just expect greatness. When it doesn’t happen, you don’t shift up the plan. You just keep on going and trust the process.”
Rodgers described his preparation routine as central to maintaining performance throughout the season.
“There’s a lot of beauty in the mundane,” he explained. “The mundane is the Monday to Saturday where you can actually win games. I embrace that part of the job. I’ve loved it. That’s why I’m still here, still playing. Obviously, the icing on the cake is game day, but Monday to Saturday is where you win games.”
One standout moment for Rodgers this season was during an earlier matchup with Baltimore when he passed for 284 yards in a Steelers victory.
Reflecting on his performance overall this year and adapting to new systems within football teams—a process familiar in NFL franchises such as the Pittsburgh Steelers—Rodgers stated: “At times, yeah, definitely…Anytime you’re in a first-year offense there are always some growing pains within the offense…the more years you get in a system with the same guys, the more continuity you have…”
Rodgers looks forward to playing beyond Sunday night’s high-stakes game at Acrisure Stadium—the headquarters for both operations and fan engagement activities like historical exhibits (more information).
“It’s a special feeling to be able to play on that Sunday night slot for all-or-nothing,” he said, “and a lot easier when you’re playing at home.”
The Steelers’ focus remains firmly on securing another division title as they continue their pursuit within an organization recognized for six Super Bowl championships (official website) and ongoing efforts celebrating its legacy through initiatives such as their Hall of Honor (details here).
